Carole Katchen's art is brimming with a
gentle humor and sincerity. She is an impressionist whose
whimsical social commentary has attracted a vast audience
throughout the world. Her paintings have been featured in exhibit and publication on
6 continents. She brings a sense of
humanity and personal commitment to her art, an ability to
reach beyond the obvious and capture the people around her,
the places they dwell and the environment that shapes them.
Her work has been exhibited throughout
the United States and featured in such prestigious magazines
as American Artist, Southwest Art, Pastel Artist
International and The Artist's Magazine. Her
paintings have also been recognized with numerous awards
including the Grumbacher Gold Medallion Award (Pastel Society
of New Mexico National Exhibit,) Golden Mentor Award
(International Association of Pastel Societies) and Master
Pastelist (Pastel Society of America.) Her work can be found
in private and corporate collections around the country
including the Denver Symphony Orchestra and the Museum of
Outdoor Art.
A professional artist for 30 years,
Carole Katchen's paintings have appeared in exhibits and books
on several continents. She was selected for World Who's Who
of Women, Who's Who of American Art and Who's Who in
the South & Southwest. She has written 17 published
books and sold over one million copies. Most recently Express Yourself With Pastel, and articles for Cosmopolitan, Parents, and several art magazines.
She is a Contributing Editor to The Artist's Magazine and a featured columnist for International Artist.
Carole Katchen received her B.A. from
the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1965. She has taught
numerous courses in drawing and painting at colleges and
museums throughout the United States. A resident of Hot Springs,
AR, she shows her art regularly at Telluride
Gallery of Fine Art, Telluride, Colorado; Gore Creek
Gallery, Vail, Colorado; Legacy Gallery, Hot Springs, Arkansas; Alpha
Gallery, Little Rock, Arkansas; and American Legacy Gallery,
Kansas City, Missouri.
As a draughtsman, Carole
Katchen is a realist. Her work gives us a great deal of pure
description of the human body, of the soul and of the milieu
of her time. She gives of her own intellect, her feelings, her
love for body and manifestations of life, and above all, she
keenly observes reality without succumbing to mere appearances
or impressions.
Carole’s art is not only a
profession, but an obligation, the only way of attaining a
certain truth. Carole sees modernism in a monumental fashion.
She synthesizes and enchants it into a new convention which
delivers the character and power of her expression.
