Jack Muir was born and raised in Montana
where he has spent most of his life. Jack's interest in art
began at an early age. This interest was nurtured by his
mother who is both an artist and musician. Jack received his
formal training from Montana State University graduating with
a degree in Fine Art.
An affinity for sculpting, in combination with a background in
jewelry casting, led Jack to the art casting industry in
Kalispell Montana. Jack learned the art casting profession
while spending four years managing and working in a bronze
foundry. In 1978 Jack co founded Kalispell Art Casting, which
is currently one of the largest art casting foundries in the
west. Kalispell Art Casting employs over 45 full time
employees and casts for several hundred artists and dealers
throughout the United States and Canada.
Jack's business association with some of the most renowned
wildlife and western artists has had a wide and varied
influence in his own art work. Wildlife and western are themes
that prevail in Jack's sculptures, with the horse and human
form providing particular inspiration for his art. Subject
matter, however, is secondary to Jack's main interest, which
is to focus on strong sculptural elements. Jack's sculptures
exude both emotion and interest through use of design,
composition, and texture.
In 2001 Jack was honored by Governor Marc Rocicot of Montana
to exhibit his sculptures at the Governor's Residence in
Helena, Montana. Jack's sculptures have been selected the last
three years by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to be sold at
the foundations annual fundraising banquets. 450 banquets are
held each year throughout the United States and Canada. Jack
has also participated in many juried art shows including the
National Sculpture Society shows held in New York City and the
annual C. M. Russell art show and auction. His sculptures can
be found in private collections throughout the United States
and Canada. Jack is represented by Gore Creek Gallery in Vail,
CO; Caswell Gallery in Jackson, WY; Mudhead Gallery in Denver,
CO located in the Hyatt Regency; and The Plainsmen Gallery in
Dunedin, FL.
